The son of an Anglican priest, after graduating in Classics at Magdalene College Cambridge, John-Henry served as a volunteer teacher for two years in Amman, Jordan at a former Mission School.

Back in England he trained in industrial management and worked as a manager in the road transport industry from 1972 till 2004, for the last 16 years with the Royal Mail where he managed the transport of letters within the City of London, and then linking London with South-East England, and the rest of the world through Heathrow Airport.

During this time he found his call to Ordination confirmed and in 1981 was accepted as a candidate for the Non-Stipendiary ministry, believing that the Church should have witnesses able to speak with its authority to people in their working life from within that life. He was made deacon in 1984 and ordained priest in 1985.  He was licensed as Assistant Priest to a series of parishes where his family lived, and for some three fruitful years to the parish of St. Mary-le-Bow in the City of London which serves a congregation in its place of work.  On accepting early retirement from the Royal Mail in 2004, he moved with his wife to Venice to take up the (still non-stipendiary) post of Anglican Chaplain to Venice, Padova and Trieste.  After five years in Venice he returned to the UK and served as Interim Chaplain to the Bishop of Gibraltar.

He was licensed as Priest-in-Charge of St George's Chaplaincy Malaga on 11 November 2011.

John-Henry is married (1972) to Marilyn, and they have two adult children who live in England.
